Meals on Wheels Celebrates Milestone Six Millionth Meal Delivery!
The rainy skies on July 22, 2009 didn't dampen the spirits of the large crowd of Meals on Wheels' staff, board members, vounteers, and local media as they gathered with anticipation at client Mary's house, along with her family, to celebrate the delivery of Meals on Wheels' six millionth meal by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels.
"This is a major milestone in our Meals on Wheels history, and it would not be possible without the dedication of our wonderful army of volunteers and contributors, as well as the commitment of our many local hospitals and health care facilities," said Executive Director Barb Morris.
As Governor Daniels carried in Mary's meals and saw the large crowd assembled for the momentous delivery, he joked, "I don't think I've got enough for everyone."
Mary was full of excitement as Governor Daniels brought in her food and set it on her kitchen table, then proceeded to plant a big kiss on the top of her head. "Thank you!" Mary exclaimed loudly, as she clapped her hands and gave the governor a big smile.
Afterwards, Governor Daniels thanked the numerous staff, supporters and volunteers gathered througout Mary's home, and said about the Meals on Wheels organization: "It really is one of the most efficient and cost-effective programs."
We couldn't have said it any better!
